This work was created while I was working as a Senior Designer at Illustria in Washington (DC).
Team:
Marina Guthmann (Senior Designer, UI/UX)
Angelia Duncan (Senior Designer, Brand)
Dennis Turbeville (Creative Director)
Client:
EDB Postgres
Challenge & Requirements:
> Design the website of the PGDay Amsterdam, an annual event of EDB Postgres, that could be reused for the next events;
> This website needed to be easy to manage by our client, without needing a developer or a designer every time they need to change parts of the content;
> The visual language needed to be bold yet timeless.
Role & Responsibilities:
> Creating wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes of all pages (for web and mobile devices);
> Creating all visual elements and assets (as icons, UI elements like text fields and buttons), all assets were based on the event's logo created by Angelia Duncan;
> Handing off the design to the developers and giving support during the development process with feedback and suggestions.
As you could see on the screens above, the website has different photographs of Amsterdam's city on each page. To create a more exciting yet straightforward interaction, we decided to use the Unsplash website's API. We set it to display pictures randomly from a collection created by us. So every time you refresh the page, you will see a different side of the city.
The video above shows how the call to action "Register Here" is always stuck with the header. So it doesn't matter where you are located on the website; you will always find your way to register.
As I left Illustria before the event happened, I don't have the final numbers or specific details. However, the 2018 event was a great success, and the 2019 event also used the website and the visual identity we designed for them.
